Background: After the reemergence of their city, the Atlanteans woke up from a deep sleep that lasted thousands of years with the war between them and the Vaakish still fresh in their minds. Now, they aim to spread their influence through their innovation. In doing so, they understand compromises will have to be made.

  • Required Element or Affinity: Water, Crystal, Thunder, Sun, or Wet

Optional: Atlanteans typically had sentient mechanical companions by their side. Feel free to include them in your applications alongside your character.

 

​Atmosphere: A warm, humid, and sunny climate. It rains at least twice a week.

Architecture is Greek in style, the condition at the time before the Island sunk was in a perfect and pristine state. Currently repairs are ongoing to revitalize the city after its recent emergence. Grapevines and passion fruit are growing everywhere. Blue, green and gold were the most common colors used for draperies to hang around the City. Music is always playing someplace somewhere at any given moment. The city is bustling with activity and hardly anyone ever sleeps. Most of their days are spent drinking, dancing, and celebrating.

People: The people of Atlantis are very social. They cannot bear to be alone for more than a minute. Most of their days are spent socializing or studying. They are an innovative people with an advanced set of tools and inventions that make mundane tasks quick and easy.


Clothing and Typical Appearance: Natives have darker toned/ or tanned skin with any variation of light hair or colored eyes. Clothes they wear consist of cloths, silk, shells, crystals, scales, lustrous accents, gold, beads, and heavy jewelry.


Methods of Travel: Atlanteans typically travel by foot, boat, or horse. Most of the needed amenities are centralized within the city.


Food & Supplies: There are cattle pens located in different sectors of the city where they raise livestock. Their main source of food comes from the waters the island resides on. As for their supplies, they depend on trade from other countries to get them. They are a very wealthy city given the fact the island rests upon Cashur’s cave.


Cuisine: Mollusks like squid, octopus, cuttlefish, prawns, and crayfish. Fish like yellowfin tuna, red mullet, rays, sea bass, grouper, wrasse, swordfish, sturgeon, sprat, and eels. Sardines and anchovies are common snacks as well as olives drizzled in honey. Less commonly they consume meats like goat, pig, lamb, sheep, pheasant, chicken, and geese. Food is mostly salty/sour. Vegetables and greens they consume are radishes, turnips, carrots, romaine lettuce, cress, arugula, cabbage, cardoons, celery, fennel, garlic, leeks, cucumbers, squash, and artichokes. Commonly used herbs and spices are coriander, dill, mint, oregano, saffron, and thyme. Grains used are wheat and barley. Beans, seeds/nuts consumed were chickpeas, green and yellow peas, lentils, beechnuts, chestnuts, walnuts, and almonds. Fruits grown and eaten are plums, olives, pomegranates, bergamot oranges/lemons, grapes, figs, apples, pears, quinces, dates, apricots, and coconut.
Traditional meals include salted fish paired with wine.


Housing: Insula that’s found more towards the center of the city with ancient villas built around them.


Religious Perspective: Atlanteans follow the religion more loosely. They believe in the greater powers however they are less inclined to follow their wishes and typically engage in more secular behavior. They are very independent in nature and rarely do they ever look to anyone for help other than their own kin.

Hierarchies and Form of Governance

Form of Governance:  Oligarchy – Diarchy
Ruled by: Two Kings from the aristocracy. A hereditary position, connected through the same link of old ancestry.
Positions:

  • Princes and Princesses – Heirs to the throne.

  • Ephorate – A group of 7 leaders, extremely wealthy and high in status, highly regarded among the people. They are ambassadors of the city and handle the majority of political affairs and dealings. Final decisions are done through a majority vote. It is made entirely of men and they hold as much power as the Kings themselves.

  • Aetraseca and the Magistrate Aetraseca is the name of the military (check FAQ> for more details about Atlantis’ military.) The Magistrate is a separate but related branch of the military where civil officers precede over dealings with minor crimes that the Ephorate and Kings usually wouldn’t.

  • Aeropagus – Refer to Religion> section.

  • Ecclesia – Born citizens who were able to join an assembly and weigh in on political matters as well as vote people into positions of power within the Ephorate and Aeropagus.

Points  of Interest

The Agora - Where the Atlantean Palace resides, festivities are held, and people congregate.
The Shores - Mostly recognized as fishing grounds where people catch and bring food to the markets. Also, a popular spot for people to lounge and engage in recreational activities.
Shopping Districts - An outdoor shopping district where people trade and sell.
Arts Area - Statues, art, music, plays, and more.
Bathhouses - Greek styled public and private bath houses.
The Brothel - Residence of the courtesans.
The Great Bridges - Bridges that connect smaller, outer islands to the Atlantean city.
The Gates - Entry to the city that is guarded by a pair of leviathans: Ophydra and Caedien.
